Briefly...
- Where, when
- Ludovico Gardenghi, born in 1982. I live in
Bologna.
- What
- PhD student in Computer Science, University of Bologna. Occasionally, I work here and there as a system and network administrator (mainly Linux machines),
both inside and outside University. I am root on JPolis servers. In the past I wrote some articles on Linux-related magazines.
I teach Security Lab for the Master in Free and Open Source
Software Technologies, University of Bologna.
- How to contact me
- By e-mail, at garden
little-snail acheronte round-ink-blot
it; on the IRC network Freenode, channel
#acheronte.
- School and beyond
- High-school degree (“maturità scientifica”); BS in Computer Science;
MSc in Computer Science, University of Bologna, Italy.
- CS/IT past, present and whoknows interests
- System/networks administration on *X systems; systems
and networks security; parallel and distributed
simulation; virtualization of OSs and networks. Lots of
other things, if you're able to catch my attention.
- CS/IT dis-interests
- Everything that has too much to do with interaction
between humans and computers. Everything that has too much
to do with software engineering (in its worst meaning).
- Other interests
- If I had more time, organ music (Bach and Italian XIX
century authors) and, in general, musical instruments.
Improvisation theater.
Other things (something more geekish, something less).
If something complicated is worth spending time in, I
usually end up trying it.
- (Secret) codes
- To Whom It May Concern: here are my Geek Code and my public GPG key.
My CV is freely available upon request (by mail, IRC,
carrier pigeon, etc.). Or you can check my LinkedIn profile.
FAQ (not so much F, indeed)
- About your picture in this page...
- Shut up.
- Your website is ugly, messy, useless.
- I know, I'm a bad web designer. I'm going to improve it, some day.
- Why “acheronte”?
- “Vuolsi cosí colà dove si puote // ciò che si vuole, e piú non dimandare.”
- Have you got a blog?
- Maybe. There's something that might resemble a blog and that i might keep updated.
It's called Bruscolini (i.e. “pumpkin seeds”). Don't expect to find very much in there.
Personal posts are in Italian, more technical ones are in
English or in both languages.
- I really, really, really want to send you a gift. What would you like to receive?
- I'm trying to keep a minimal wishlist (Italian only at present, sorry). Read this post for more information.
What I do
This is a partial listing of CS-related projects I'm
working on or I've worked on in the past. Feel free to ask me
for more details and more projects :-).
- ARTÌS
- A Parallel and Distributed Simulations Middleware, developed at theComputer Science Department,
University of Bologna. I worked on a replication
mechanisms for mi BS thesis.
- View-OS: A Process with a View
- Partial virtual machines that allows to redefine the system calls behavior for a process or subtree of processes. It can be used to tailor a virtual environment on the exact needs of an application. Two versions are available: the first runs entirely in user space, the second one requires a utrace-based kernel module. They both require Linux kernel 2.6.
- Virtual Distributed Ethernet
- Package for creating and managing virtual level 2/3 networks. The main tool is a switch
that can be, like a physical switch, connected to a real network via a TAP interface; or, it can be connected to virtual machines or other switches via a virtual plug.
Supported platforms include Linux, Mac OS/X, FreeBSD.
