Joining Blood and Shadow

Blood and Shadow is looking for new members!

Blood and Shadow is not a hardcore guild, but is instead a friendly guild that focuses on having fun in PVE, and doing some role-playing and some casual PVP. It is a guild for people who want to have fun without necessarily having three or more “you MUST attend” raids every week, and without having to deal with untrusted guild members, ninjas, beggars, and the like.

At the moment the PVE focus is on mid-high level content: 5 and 10 men instances. The current plan is to form alliances with other guilds to advance to 10+ raids in the future. Therefore, if you’re looking for help in Naxxramas, this is not the right guild for you right now; but if you want to conquer the dungeons of Azeroth or explore the vastity of the Outland, then read on!

Sometimes Blood and Shadow plans role-playing events, like ceremonies for promotions of guild members or other special occasions. Guild members are always welcome to attend; outsiders are also welcome, and might get a feeling of what the guild is like. Some of the guild members will often role-play, using lore-specific terms, but if you don’t care about role-playing no one will get upset if you talk about hardware problems or real life things.

All levels and classes are generally welcome, as there are also some lower level characters in the guild. At the same time, keep in mind that most members are level 50+, and situations like level 60 guild members helping lower level ones to clear the Wailing Caverns quickly are likely to happen very rarely: the level of difficulty is the key to reaching good skills and a good level of gameplay. If you never fight, you never learn.

Also, please don’t join only with alts: if you don’t play a character, it doesn’t need a guild. We plan to adventure in Azeroth and Outland and have fun, not to have to kick people out of the guild after they’ve been inactive for months.

In short, if you can’t or don’t want to do hardcore play, but you still like to venture deep inside Blackrock Mountain, in the streets of Stratholme or the daemonic wastes of Outland enjoying the battles and the setting, and if you’re looking for a fun and serious team of people to play with, join us!

Requirements to join and stay in the guild

There are many benefits for being part of Blood and Shadow, but as there are also some requirements for the aspiring new member, we shall list those first. Although they may make Blood and Shadow seem strict to some, requirements are necessary to discourage those who want to join a guild for no reason and leave the next day, and so that a fun and playable environment is preserved for all members and non-members.

  • Candidate must be serious in wanting to join a guild. Blood and Shadow is not a guild to join just to have some text under your character’s name in the game, or to have immediate promotions and powerful items given to you for free. Rewards of various kinds are frequent and treasure from dungeons and quests is normally shared to varying degrees among members, but must be earned with work and dedication;
  • Candidate is expected to know his or her place in a party. Learning the game is fun and help will be given by fellow guildmates to all those who are inexperienced or willing to find out more about guild policies, but in order to participate to dungeon quests and raids it is important to collaborate and respect one’s role and the rest of the party (no Leeroy Jenkinses ;-) );
  • Candidate can spend as much or as little time as he or she wishes with the guild, but, as stated elsewhere in the Blood and Shadow website, promotions, honors and benefits will be bestowed only on those members who prove to be the most loyal to the guild and spend time helping fellow adventurers;
  • Candidate must not and will not cheat in any way, exploit loopholes or do any of the activities that at any time Blizzard Entertainment deems illegal and/or against the World of Warcraft Terms of Service. This includes, but is not limited to, in-game scamming, verbal harassment towards other players, installation and usage of third-party user mods that are considered illegal, purchase of in-game gold or items from third-party services for real money.

These requirements, particularly the last one in the list, apply both to aspiring new members and to effective members of the guild. Violations may spoil the fun for the rest of the guild or other players in the game world, and thus will be reported to the Archons or the Executor (or Blizzard in extreme cases) and appropriate action may be taken.

Benefits and rewards

Blood and Shadow is not only a place of sacrifice. Rewards are often given to members in the form of items or gold, according primarily to loyalty and secondarily to rank, branch and level. Promotions are also bestowed upon those who prove to deserve them, following completion of quests or assignments given by the Archons, and during special public ceremonies in which the guild member is also given goods from the guild treasury. Remember the main point is having fun together!

  • Sharing: treasures and rewards are shared during raids and questing, during ceremonies and on any occasion of need. No ninja looting is allowed, to offer a more pleasurable dungeon experience. Bind-on-equip items may be redistributed at the end of a dungeon run according to needs and possibilities, and always through the common agreement of the participants to the run.
  • Role-playing: role-playing is very welcome and encouraged. Each member can have one or more character pages on this website where they can tell a background story for their character; acting as that character in-game allows for a deeper playing experience for the whole guild. It is not a strict requirement though, and being out-of-character is almost always allowed, ceremonies being an exception. Serious role-playing can be rewarded in various ways too.
  • Teamwork: members of Blood and Shadow will always have a team of fellow guildmates available for group gaming. Teamwork is ensured by stressing each player’s role in the party and assigning tasks.
  • Fun: Blood and Shadow is not only a bunch of rules to follow, the most important thing is have fun and have fun with others. The rules are in place only to ensure more fun for everyone, and some may be broken in particular cases. Mistakes happen, and nobody is expected to behave perfectly at all times. We learn by doing, and sometimes learning by being wiped can be more enjoyable than not (but not that often ;-) ).

Asking to join

Whoever is interested in joining is welcome to contact one of the Officers in-game (see below), and adventure with any of the guild members to make sure Blood and Shadow is the right guild for them. Officers can give more information about the guild if necessary, and will be able to tell the aspiring member what to do to join.

Write one of the current recruiting Archons:

or try one of these recruiting Arbiters:

Alternatively you can post on the guild forums.

Normally, all new members will join with a rank of Acolyte, and will stay in that rank as long as they don’t meet the requirements for advancement. For more information see the Ranks page.
